The Rev. James Erwin West became Interim Pastor of St. Mark’s on January 29, 2017. He came to Williamsport from Winsor, Colorado.
Pastor West was born and baptized in North Dakota (First Lutheran, Bismarck), raised in Michigan (Trinity, Kalamazoo). He attended Northwestern University and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy in 1978. He attended seminary at Northwestern Lutheran Theological Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota, graduating with a Master of Divinity degree in 1982.
His first call to ministry was at Augsburg, Detroit and then First English, Toledo. He then entered a twenty year career as a Navy Chaplain, with the first duty station in Ceiba, Puerto Rico, and then on ships in San Diego, with Marines at Camp Pendleton and Marine Boot Camp back in San Diego, then helicopters at North Island (Coronado, California) , then on a carrier out of North Island and finally submarines based at Point Loma, California.
After leaving the Chaplaincy, Pastor West began a career as an intentional interim pastor. He previously served as interim pastor at Atonement, San Diego and Bethel, Windsor, Colorado.
Pastor West is married to the former Mary Beth Quanbeck of Burnsville, Minnesota. They have five children, Greg, Brad, Holly, Anthony and Carly.
Pastor West served St. Mark's until October 2019, returning thereafter to Colorado to await another interim call.
