One of the very important days in a young person's life is the
granting of a driving permit. Lots of family anxiety is present as
responsibility is learned and earned.
On May 13, Mark Kinney, son of Jackie and Mike Kinney, announced
that he had successfully completed the driver's exam, and asked for
our prayers in the milestone we call Blessing of the Young Driver
and Car Keys. At the 10:30 service on May 20, a keychain that bears
Luther's seal was given to Mark as a reminder that the gifts God
continues to grant us day after day in every place we travel must be
exercised with responsibility to God and all of the people around
us.
Mark brought with him one of the things that he used as a younger youth, an object that he passed on to another. He surrendered a baseball, which commemorated his first Little League home run. For him it is a sign of time gone by, of a time that will not come again. There is sadness in leaving the safety of childhood, and also the excitement of new challenges ahead. The keys that some see only as a sign of their independence, we acknowledge as signs of our interdependence and responsibility - signs of approaching maturity.
When Mark is encountered, please express your encouragement to him, and remind him that we pray for him as he enters this next chapter of his life. (We might pray also for patience and wise discernment on the part of his parents Mike and Jackie as well!)
