Namesake of Former Pastor Visits St. Mark's

October 25, 2026

Joseph Welker V and Jennifer

Pastor WelkerA familiar name visited St. Mark's for worship on October 25, 2026. Pastor Joseph Welker V, and his wife Jennifer stopped in on their way to North Carolina. Pastor Welker has accepted a call to a church in that state.

The pastor is the latest in a long line of ministers. His great-great grandfather was the second pastor of the "First English Evangelical Lutheran Church" of Williamsport (which was later named "St. Mark's"), serving from 1853-57. Pastor Joseph Welker of our church was instrumental in planning and constructing the first church building on Market Street.

After the service, Pastor Welker was surrounded with curious folks who were fascinated by this family history. Thank you Pastor and Jennifer Welker for worshiping with us and adding your story to St. Mark's history.
