Christian Humcke, Organist and Music Director of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, Williamsport, has accepted a new position as Minister of Music at a Lutheran church in Mercer County, New Jersey. His final worship services with St. Mark's took place Sunday, February 9, and will include a special setting of the Lutheran liturgy which he composed and the Widor “Toccata” as a postlude.
Humcke has been a member of the church staff since graduating from Peabody Conservatory, Baltimore, Maryland, having completed his undergraduate education at Bucknell University, Lewisburg. In addition to serving as organist and conducting the chancel and bell choirs at St. Mark’s, he was actively involved in regional music groups including the Williamsport Civic Chorus, for which he served as accompanist, and the Susquehanna Valley Chorale. He also founded the Williamsport Camerata singing group and actively composed during his tenure.
Members of the congregation had the opportunity to say "farewell" after the service, at a special hospitality. Christian received several gifts to commerate his time with St. Mark's.
Wishing Christian God Speed on his next voyage.
