On Wednesday, March 16, Mr. Ken Sawyer of WRAK 1400-AM, broadcast his show live, from Fellowship Hall of St. Mark's! The two hour show started at 10 AM and was open to the public, some of whom stopped by to watch.
A number of special guests participated in the radio broadcast. First on were the Director of Family Promise, Melissa Magargle, and Pastor Elkin. They spoke of the work of Family Promise on hosting the homeless at local churches. Their comments were all the more poignant since this occurred in the middle of our week to host Family Promise of Lycoming County, and of course the surrounding rooms were set up for the use of our guests in the evening.
Also appearing were representatives of other transitional housing programs in Williamsport: Pastor Clare Benson of New Covenant United Church of Christ and Major Marie Harris of the Salvation Army, who spoke about Journey House; Dawn Astin of Saving Grace; and, Christine Dodie and Megan Stim who spoke of the efforts of Liberty House, a program of the YWCA, that helps reduce homelessness and get women and children, in particular, back on their feet.
The program concluded with Bonnie Mahoney of St. Joe's and Pastor Elkin for St. Mark's speaking on the Iron Chef-Williamsport competition, a fund-raising project on behalf of Family Promise.
Always something new at St. Mark's!
