The challenge was made and accepted. The teams were set. The ingredients were picked. Iron Chef Williamsport was ready to roll.
The team from St. Mark's, Pastor Kenneth Elkin, Bernadette Jones, Jackie Kinney met the team from Pine Street Methodist, Pastor Aden Wertz, Maureen McBride and Cindy Person, in a 60 minute cook-off in in full view of more more than 70 in the audience. In the allowed time, the teams created a meal using pork and side dishes - and the meal had to meet the tough standards of the Judges: Chef Michael Ditchfield, Instructor, Pennsylvania College of Technology, Rob Armstrong Chef de Cuisine for Le Jeune Chef, and Michael Yaw a student at the College.
In a miracle of modern technology, the contest was streamed live on Ustream by a team led by Carlos Saldivia, of First Contact . All was visible to the audience from a large screen set up in Fellowship Hall. Local radio personality, Gary Chrisman kept the event lively with play-by-play commentary, interviews, banter and levity.
In the end, the St. Mark's team prevailed in a close race (score 77 to 74). The real winner was the Family Promise of Williamsport program. Besides contributing to a great cause the audience was treated to a wonderful meal prepared by Nicole Walz, sous chef at the Williamsport Country Club, and served celebrity waiters, County Commissioners Larson and Wheeland; local businessman Trey Phillips; Loyalsock Township's tax collector, Dottie White and state Assemblyman Rick Mirabito.
