From Sunday, June 8, through Thursday, June 12, 2008, approximately 40 children along with 44 volunteers (youth and adult) visited SonWorld Adventure Park, where they learned about making choices. Each night featured a different choice: choosing to ACT, BELIEVE, FORGIVE, OBEY, and, on Thursday, the most important: JESUS!
Each evening began with dinner and fellowship at 5:30. About 6:15, the choice of the day was introduced via a series of skits featuring "animatronic" characters of SonWorld: Skip Trueheart, Captain Blackbird, Princess Flora Rose, Dusty Chaps, and William the Frog. the children then dispersed for a more in-depth Bible study of the night's theme, followed by reinforcement through games, song, crafts and creative snacks.
The children's mission project this year was raising money to send to "our" missionary, Bette McCrandall, in Liberia, to purchase playground equipment for the children there. Everyone chose to ACT and raised a grand total of $252.32 to send to Bette for the children there.
The final night ended in celebration, to which the parents, grandparents and families of all the children were invited. The final installment of SonWorld skit was presented, followed by a concert performed by the children. Ice cream sundaes followed in the courtyard, where the children also enjoyed a bounce house.
The messages each day got through to the children. When asked about it up to a week or two later, they answered with little hesitation about the choices they learned they could make.
